Is Church Membership Necessary?

To be a member of a church is to make a public promise to live according to God’s Word and to support the worship and work of the church. We encourage everyone who calls UBC their church home to become official members.

Joining UBC is a simple yet significant process.

1. Attend Class 101: Discovering Church Membership
As you think about making a decision to join the church, we offer a class that covers
what it means to be a Member, as well as our mission, basic beliefs and theological
distinctives. We want you to know exactly what it means to join UBC and what is
required when you do before asking you to make a decision.

2. Baptism
This step is only for those who haven't alread been baptized as a consenting adult in
another church.

3. A conversational interview with a couple of our elders
Once you've attended Class 101 and been baptized we will schedule you for an
interview with members of our elder board. The elders will ask a series of questions
related to your salvation and will give you the opportunity to ask any additional
questions you may have regarding your commitment or the church's commitment to

4. Membership Vote
After your interview with the elders, the church will vote on you, based on the Elder
Board's recommendation at the next scheduled business meeting. It gives our
members a chance to celebrate with your commitment to our community of believers.
